Product description

Rosemary Orange shampoo soap marries ancient ingredients from two cultures. Mediterranean cultures have used Rosemary in hair rinses for hundreds of years, and the Chinese have cultivated sweet Oranges for at least as long because, I assume, they’re tasty (but the citric acid is great for your hair too). The scents are reminiscent of a garden on the Eastern or Western Cape of South Africa, with great climates for easy-peel oranges and herb gardens. Beside amazing scents, Rosemary Orange is full of goodness for your hair. It’s free from all nasties like SLS and parabens, and the diverse blend of oils is held together by Soy wax, making it a vegan friendly shampoo.

A lot Rosemary Orange’s hair power works on your scalp - especially by the Rosemary and Bergamot essential oil. Rosemary improves blood circulation in your scalp which ensures your hair follicles stay nourished to support growth and prevent premature greying. Meanwhile Bergamot ups the ante with its antibacterial, antibiotic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties – all which make for younger hair from your scalp up. Not to forget the Orange citric acid – this wonder strips residue from your hair, unclogs and tighten follicles plus gives your hair an amazing shine. I made Rosemary Orange by hand using a cold-process method, so weight will be close but approximate.

FAQ

What’s a shampoo bar?

A lot of people wonder if shampoo bars are just soap. They’re definitely not! The mechanics of making a shampoo bar are similar (we use a handmade, cold press method), but the ingredients are selected for completely different reasons. Oils are used in shampoos and soaps, but there are oils better suited to cleansing and nourishing your hair and scalp – and of course they are used for shampoo bars.

Do shampoo bars work?

You might wonder if shampoo bars lather or leave residue. The first answer is yes, and the second is only if you wash your water supply gives you hard water (translation: contains lots of residual minerals). You can get around the residue issue with a shower attachment or using a water-cider vinegar solution rinse.

Are shampoo bars good for coloured hair?

Handmade shampoo bars don’t contain harsher chemicals that most commercial bottled shampoos contain; this makes them better for coloured hair a lot of the time. Of course you should always test on a small area the first time (like with all shampoos), but they work great on my coloured hair!

Do shampoo bars expire?

Only if you wash your hair just a few times a year. Because shampoo bars are composed of oils, they can easily last up to 3 years without worrying about spoiling. Natural changes will occur as you use a shampoo bar; the colour may change, and the scents mature – but these are normal and won’t affect the wash.

Are shampoo bars cheaper than a bottled shampoo?

Yes. It’s generally accepted in the beauty industry that shampoo bars last around 3 times longer than shampoo from bottles. Feel free to put it to the test and let me know!

Do you use conditioner with a shampoo bar?

It all depends on your hair. You’ll find that shampoo bars are much gentler on your hair, and won’t strip out natural oils like commercial shampoos. I’ve not needed to use conditioner since switching to shampoo bars.
